I went to Parramatta today to check out some things in the shopping centre there. I still have birthday gift vouchers and want to spend them before they expire. first thing to catch my eye was a new Starbucks! They are opening all over the place now. It was interesing to see whenever I passed it, that it was not nesrly as well patronised as may other coffee shops. I can easily understand that. Australians like good coffee and Starbucks tastes like mud and is weak as well. The residents of a trendy suburb near me made such protests that Starbucks withdrew an application to open. Another trendy suburb once had a McDonalds on its long main street full of ethnic eateries. McDonalds closed after a couple of years because of lack of patronage.

Amazing day for the spring equinox here today. It was 27 degrees in the city and 30 further out.

Not so amzing was the mess caused by an overturned cement truck on an ovrpass over one of the freeways. It was partially through the guard rail and threatened to fall on the freeway underneath. All eastbound peak hour traffic was held up for over two hours till it was shifted by a very large crane. Understandably, those who had paid their toll for a swift passage to the city were not amused.
