Went to the Salvador Dali exhibition in Sydney. Spent several hours there and came out with my head spinning. However, I learnt a lot about Dali in the time. i particularly liked his illustrations of la Fontaine's fables and his work on Dante.

Exhibition to me was somewhat spoilt by the poor quality merchandise of souvenirs. Many were quite expensive. T-shirts were quite cheap but were of a very shoddy workmanship and the material looked as if it would not survive past the first wash. The exhibition's entry fee was quite expensive . Well mounted and presented, then spoilt at the end.

A Melbourne couple has been granted permisssion to screen stored frozen embryos for deafness, so that only a healthy one will be implanted. Now this raises all sorts of questions. Most of them are quite involved and will entail many differing viewpoints even among christians. Where will this lead? I do not find screening for deafness as an insult to the deaf, although there was a spokesman who suggested that this would be the view of many. OK, that statement didn't turn out quite right. I think screening for any illness/disabilities is wrong. Deafness to me is not something which is an overwhelming disability. I wouldn't even countenance the destruction of the embryo even if it could be shown that there was something much more seriously wrong with it. It was reported that the couple would not consider terminating a pregnancy after amniocentesis or similar. They will quite happily destroy an embryo which may result in a deaf child. I am afraid the logic of that escapes me.

Have been spending inordinate amounts of time fine tuning new hearing aids. Takes heaps of time and energy. More on topic at today's entry in my journal.

Unfortunately my computer seems to be terminally ill. My son says not to use it, but to save its last remaining gasps to transfer data to a new one he will get for me. This one was not new when he gave it to me and that was about seven years ago. It has done a lot since then. Fortunately, most of what I want is backed up - a lesson learnt the hard way several years ago. That's life isn't it? Aleways the hard way, because we either do not think that something bad will happen (eg. my hard disc crashing) or because we often can't be bothered doing what we know we ought to do. Currently am using my husband's computer, but can't get on here as much.

Picked up my new hearing aids and am gradually becoming accustomed to them and to the remote control which is very helpful. If you want to know more, I have written in today's entry in my journal.

It's been a few days. Some of them I have been away and some of them have been just too busy to be on computer.
